Mantises are predatory insects. There are over 2500 species of moths in the world. They are distributed mainly in tropical areas of the world, inhabiting a variety of habitats - forests, scrub and grasslands and deserts. Most of them do not actively seek food, waiting suspended on the approach of prey, which they quickly seize with their forelegs. Consequently, they are mainly guided by sight, i.e. they can see very well. In shape and colour, mantises are very variable according to the environment in which they live, for example the Crown Mantis resembles an orchid flower, the Malayan Mantis a dried leaf, the African Heterochaeta orientalis a twig.
