František Kovařík has a professional background in electrical engineering. However, his interest in insects, spiders and especially scorpions has influenced his whole life. Today, he is one of the worlds best known and most published specialists in scorpion taxonomy and breeding and works closely with scientific institutions in Europe, Asia and the USA. He is considered to be the best scorpion expert of Asia and Africas so-called Ethiopian region. He has assembled the largest private collection of scorpions in the world, rivalled in number of species by only four museums in the world. He became famous in our country mainly due to his many popularization articles in ABC, Aquarium-Terrarium, Akva Tera Forum, Vesmír and Živa magazines, which influenced the younger generation in their relationship with nature.
