Genus Achatina contains bigger species and also the biggest of them all, Achatina achatina. Previously more species were counted into this genus but were separated later into the genus Lissachatina according to differences in internal copulatory organs. Breeding of snails from this genus in captivity is without problems, but getting any offspring is usually rare. Only species Achatina achatina is bred in captivity on regular basis. Snails of genus Achatina have usually from 30 to 500 eggs in the clutch and incubation period takes around 4 weeks.
