The Bell´s Hinged Tortoise is a smaller species of terrestrial turtle. Its small size at maturity makes it an ideal species for keeping in a terrarium, but outdoor breeding is possible during the summer. Due to living in the undergrowth near water, we maintain a higher humidity and ideally a larger water dish even when kept in captivity. The diet is based on a plants, but for this species we should also include an animal component or fruit about once a week. As with other terrestrial turtles, we must provide a suitable source of UVB radiation for this species.
